Our Story

SUR TEQUILA honors the memory of Big Sur pioneer, Joseph William “Billy” Post. Born in 1920, a fourth generation Post in Big Sur, Billy worked the family’s cattle ranch growing up. He was an expert horseman and wrangler with a vast knowledge of Big Sur’s flora and fauna. A sharpshooter, he joined the Marines in 1941, and became a rifle instructor.

Billy and Luci Post at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California

Returning after the war to Big Sur, Billy ran the Post family ranch, married the love of his life, Luci, and helped construct many of the original Big Sur roads, including the roads at the Post Ranch Inn. When Billy passed in 2009, Big Sur lost a respected community leader who loved to share stories of Big Sur’s history and its pioneers with a warm smile over a slow sip. In Billy’s memory, partial proceeds from the sale of each bottle are donated to the Post Ranch Big Sur Community Fund.
